Middlesbrough have secured the signing of Brazilian left-back Neto Borges, marking their sixth addition of the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old has joined the club on a three-year contract from French side Clermont.

Borges brings a wealth of experience from his time in Europe, having played for several clubs across the continent. He first gained attention in Sweden with Hammarby IF, where his performances helped the team finish fourth in the league, leading to a club-record transfer fee when he moved to Belgian side Genk.

After a stint at Genk, Borges spent time back in Brazil with Vasco da Gama before moving to Clermont in 2022, where he made nearly 100 appearances.

Middlesbrough’s head coach, Michael Carrick, expressed his enthusiasm about the new signing. "We’re really pleased to bring Neto in," Carrick said.

"He’s got good experience, he’s a good character, and he’s a very good addition to our squad."
