Hull City have confirmed the acquisition of Colombian midfielder Gustavo Puerta on a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen. The agreement includes an option for the Championship side to sign the 21-year-old permanently next summer.

Puerta, who made ten appearances for Bayer Leverkusen last season under the management of Xabi Alonso, contributed to their unbeaten Bundesliga campaign and their journey to the Europa League final.

During his time with the German champions, he featured in seven league matches and played three times in European competition, helping the team secure victories in each of his appearances.

Before joining Leverkusen in January 2023, Puerta played for Colombian club Bogotá, where he scored three goals in 31 matches. Following his move to Germany, he was loaned to Bundesliga 2 club Nuremberg for the remainder of the season.

Internationally, Puerta captained the Colombia national side to third place in the 2023 South American Under-20 Championship and led them to the quarter-finals of the Under-20 World Cup in the same year.

With 33 caps across the Under-19 and Under-20 levels, Puerta has scored five goals and provided eight assists. He has also been named on the bench twice for Colombia’s senior team.
