Plymouth Argyle secure goalkeeper Daniel Grimshaw from Blackpool
Plymouth Argyle have bolstered their goalkeeping options with the signing of Daniel Grimshaw from Blackpool on a permanent deal.
26-year-old Grimshaw, originally from Salford, began his career at Manchester City's Academy, the club he supported as a child. During his time with City, he gained experience playing alongside goalkeepers such as Ederson, and featured for the under-19 and development squads.
His career path also included loan spells at Hemel Hempstead and Belgian side Lommel, where he continued to develop his skills.
In 2021, Grimshaw moved to Blackpool, where he initially competed with club captain Chris Maxwell for the number one spot.
By the 2023/24 season, Grimshaw had established himself as Blackpool's first-choice goalkeeper, featuring in all but one league match and keeping 18 clean sheets. He also started the first two league games of the current season before making the switch to Plymouth Argyle.
Argyle Head Coach Wayne Rooney expressed his enthusiasm for the new addition, stating, "We are delighted that Daniel has agreed to join us. When we knew Michael was leaving, we moved quickly to sign Daniel as a key target to strengthen the goalkeeping department. It has taken slightly longer than we would have liked to bring him to Argyle, but we were always insistent that we wanted to bring in the right goalkeeper and not rush into signing just anyone."
Rooney also highlighted the competitive spirit Grimshaw brings to the squad, noting, "Daniel will come into the group and challenge Conor for that starting spot, and I am really pleased we have managed to bring him here permanently."
