Guy sets sights on first winner's medal

St Patrick's Athletic star Ryan Guy will be bidding for his first ever trophy with the club when they take on Bohemians in Saturday's Setanta Sports Cup Final and he is simply relishing the prospect.

"I'm very much looking forward to it now. I can't wait, It's my first cup final since I've been here and it's a chance to bring home a cup which was one of our collective goals this year,” Guy told Extratime.

The Saints attacker was also full of praise for his team's opponents in the final, Pat Fenlon's Bohemians side, who will also be looking to win the trophy for the first time in their history.

"Yeah, it's against Bohs and I don't think we'd rather be in a final against anyone else,” he said.

After 13 games St Pat's lead the race for the Airtricity Premier Division title and Guy believes that if he and his team-mates could bring the Setanta Sports Cup back to Inchicore it may spur them on to even greater success.

"I think it would be a big boost for us if we win. At the beginning of the season we just didn't want to be relegated and no we find ourselves sitting pretty at the top of the table," explained the American.

"Win or lose we're going to push on, but a win would give us an absolute boost of confidence."

Pete Mahon's men certainly weren't the bookies' favourites when the season kicked-off and have defied all predictions to still lead the way, but with the trailing pack ready to pounce can The Saints keep with the pace?

"It's possible, anything is possible. In this league a game can go anyway, confidence is going to be the issue. This is about the time in the season where teams that have been doing okay fall away," he said.

"There is a fork, some go and do well, other don't. I think if we can put a run together before the season break we can definitely push on."
