It proved to be a good night for Cork City as a late strike from the recently returned Ruairi Keating broke Cobh hearts to clinch all three points in their derby fixture.

They also extended their lead at the top of the First Division to 16 points.

The striker's finish, in the opening minute of injury time, sending a left wing Cathal O'Sullivan to the net, was his first goal since scoring for St Patrick's Athletic in their June victory over Shamrock Rovers.

That was because second placed Athlone Town lost out to Bray Wanderers with Spaniard Guillermo Almirall proving the difference between the sides at the Athlone Town Stadium.

It was a seventh clean sheet of the season for the Seagulls and first for Jimmy Corcoran who has seen his side win three of the last four league games he has appeared in.

UCD picked up all three points as they defeated Finn Harps 2-0 at home.

The Students broke the deadlock in injury time at the end of the first half as defender Harry Curtis netted for the first time ever in the league.

Three minutes into the second half, Kilkenny native Mikey Raggett found the net for his third goal in his past four league games.

Both scorers, aged 20, were set up by their evergreen 36-year-old teammate Ronan Finn.

The final First Division game of the night took place at the Markets Field with Treaty United hosting Wexford.

After a goalless first half, the recent returnee to the league Lee J Lynch found the net to break the deadlock in the 52nd minute. However, within 10 minutes second half sub Mikie Rowe fired past Corey Chambers to tie up the game.

The Slaneysiders took the lead five minutes later as Aaron Dobbs found the net for the sixth time this season before 17-year-old Kaylem Harnett made the points safe in the 79th minute, shortly after appearing as a substitute for Kian Corbally.
