Manchester City have officially re-signed Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona on a one-year deal.

The 33-year-old midfielder, who previously spent seven highly successful seasons with the club, expressed his excitement to return, stating, "I am back at the best club in the world!"

Gundogan originally joined City in 2016 as Pep Guardiola's first signing, quickly establishing himself as one of Europe's top midfielders.

During his initial stint, he played a role in the club's success, winning five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, two Community Shields, and the Champions League. He made 304 appearances, netting 60 goals, and left a lasting legacy with the club.

Reflecting on his time at City, Gundogan said, "My seven years at Manchester City were a time of pure contentment for me, both on and off the pitch. I grew as a person and a player, developed a special relationship with the City fans, and enjoyed amazing success."

After moving to Barcelona in June 2023, Gundogan spent one season in La Liga, making 51 appearances and helping the Catalan side secure second place in the league. However, the allure of returning to Manchester proved too strong.

"Everyone knows the respect I have for Pep – he is the best manager in the world, and working with him every day makes you a better player. You feel constantly challenged, which for any professional is exactly what you want. I cannot wait to work with him again," Gundogan added.
