Plymouth Argyle have strengthened their attacking line-up by signing Irish international Michael Obafemi on a season-long loan from Burnley.

The 24-year-old forward, who ended last season on loan at Millwall in the Sky Bet Championship, will spend the remainder of the current campaign with Plymouth Argyle.

Obafemi, originally from Dublin, developed his football skills at various English clubs before breaking through at Southampton. He made his debut for the Saints at just 17 years old, becoming the second-youngest player to appear for the club, behind Luke Shaw.

Over his time at Southampton, Obafemi made 39 appearances, with 32 in the Premier League, mostly as a substitute, and scored five goals.

In the 2021/22 season, Obafemi transferred to Swansea City, where he enjoyed a productive campaign, scoring 12 goals in 33 Championship matches.

His performances earned him a move to Burnley towards the end of the 2022/23 season.

Last season, Obafemi featured twice in the Premier League for Burnley before being loaned to Millwall.

On the international front, Obafemi made his debut for the Republic of Ireland in 2018 and has since earned 12 caps, scoring two goals in the Nations League.

Plymouth Argyle Head Coach Wayne Rooney expressed his delight at the signing, stating: "We are thrilled that we have managed to secure the services of Michael. He was really keen to come and be a part of what we are building here at Plymouth Argyle. He fits the profile of player I want as part of the squad and complements the style of play we are looking to implement."
