Burnley have strengthened its defensive line by signing experienced centre-back Joe Worrall from Nottingham Forest on a four-year contract.

The deal, which remains subject to standard approvals from the EFL, FA, and Premier League, marks Burnley’s eighth signing of the summer.

The 27-year-old defender, who boasts over 200 appearances across the Premier League and Championship with Forest, also brings international experience from his time in the Scottish Premiership with Rangers and in Turkey's Super Lig with Besiktas.

Expressing his excitement about joining the Clarets, Worrall said, "I’m very happy to be a Burnley player! I can’t wait to be involved and help get them back to the Premier League!"

He added that the club immediately felt like home and is eager to connect with fans. “I want to strike up a bit of a rapport with them!” he shared.

Worrall’s career began at Nottingham Forest’s academy, which he joined in 2011. After progressing through the ranks, he had a loan spell with Dagenham & Redbridge in 2016 before making his first-team debut for Forest later that year.

His development continued with a loan to Rangers in the 2018/19 season, after which he returned to play a role at Forest, even captaining the team during their promotion to the Premier League in the 2021/22 season.

Worrall's experience was further broadened with a loan move to Turkish side Besiktas in early 2024. He is eager to contribute to Burnley’s ambitions and secure victories for the club.

"I’m just looking forward to playing, and winning, games. That’s the main ambition for me," he stated.
