Brentford have successfully completed the signing of Sepp van den Berg from Liverpool, with the 22-year-old defender committing to a five-year contract.

Van den Berg, who joined Liverpool in 2019 from Dutch side PEC Zwolle, made just four senior appearances for the Reds. His time at Anfield included loan spells at Preston North End, Schalke 04, and Mainz 05.

Thomas Frank, Brentford's head coach, expressed his satisfaction with the new acquisition.

"I’m very pleased that we have managed to sign Sepp," Frank stated.

"I think this is a great signing for the club and the team. Sepp is a centre-back with a good level and he has the potential to develop even further."

Frank highlighted the defender's attributes, saying, "He fits our culture and the way we want to play: he is quick, he reads the game well and is composed on the ball in the build-up and in the decisive defending actions."

At Preston, the Dutch player made 66 appearances across two loan spells, proving effective both as a centre-back and a right-back.

His next career step took him to the Bundesliga, where he featured for Schalke 04 and later Mainz 05, overcoming an ankle injury to make 35 appearances and score three goals.

Internationally, van den Berg has represented the Netherlands at various youth levels, including eight caps for the Under-21 side.

Frank expressed confidence that van den Berg will be a valuable addition to the squad: "Sepp is a great character, and I am convinced that he will fit in well with the group and help us to push forward."
