Portsmouth have secured the services of 27-year-old Austrian goalkeeper Nicolas Schmid from BW Linz. Schmid has signed a two-year contract with the club, with an option to extend for an additional year.

Blues manager John Mousinho expressed his satisfaction with the signing, noting the experience and skill that Schmid brings to the team.

"We’ve added an experienced keeper who’s probably at the peak of his career right now," Mousinho said.

"Nicolas is an excellent shot-stopper and has a good range of kicking. He adds to what’s already a really strong goalkeeping unit."

Schmid, who has experience at the highest level of Austrian football, began his professional career with LASK before moving to BW Linz in 2018.

He played a role in helping Linz finish 10th in the Austrian Bundesliga last season and had already featured in the first two matches of the current campaign before making his move to the south coast.
