Burnley have confirmed the acquisition of promising England U21 defender Bashir Humphreys on a season-long loan from Chelsea, with an option to buy.

Expressing his enthusiasm about the move, Humphreys stated, "It feels great! It’s an amazing club! It makes so much sense for the next step in my career."

He praised Burnley’s ambitions and the vision of the club's owners, adding, "The owners know what they’re doing, and they really want to push the club on as much as possible."

Humphreys also spoke highly of Burnley’s manager, describing their discussions as a key factor in his decision.

"The gaffer here is great! I had really good conversations with him and that’s always pivotal when it comes to transfers. It was completely perfect, everything he was saying to me. He knew about my game; he wants to work with me and help me improve. That’s all you want to hear as a player," he shared.

Originally from Exeter, Humphreys began his football journey at Reading’s academy before moving to Chelsea’s youth setup at the U15 level.

He earned a scholarship with Chelsea ahead of the 2019/20 season and steadily climbed the ranks, featuring for the club's U18s and U21s before signing his first professional contract in 2021.

Humphreys made his senior debut for Chelsea in an FA Cup match against Manchester City in January 2023, followed by an appearance in the Carabao Cup against AFC Wimbledon last season.

His international experience includes representing England from U16 to U21 levels.

The young defender gained valuable experience during a loan spell with Bundesliga 2 side SC Paderborn in the second half of the 2022/23 season and spent the previous season on loan at Swansea City in the Championship.
