Liverpool centre-back Rhys Williams has joined League Two side Morecambe on loan until January.

This move makes Williams the 18th summer signing under Morecambe manager Derek Adams.

Williams, who joined Liverpool’s academy at the age of 10, has steadily risen through the ranks, signing his first professional contract with the Reds in 2019. The same year, he played a role in Liverpool’s FA Youth Cup victory.

The 23-year-old defender has gained experience through various loan spells, including stints at Kidderminster Harriers, Blackpool, Swansea City, and Aberdeen.

He made his professional debut for Liverpool in September 2020, playing the full 90 minutes in a dominant 7-2 victory over Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup.

During that season, Williams also featured in nine Premier League matches and six Champions League games under manager Jürgen Klopp.

Internationally, Williams has represented England at youth level, earning six caps across the U18, U19, and U21 teams.

Williams expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Shrimps, saying, "I'm delighted, the manager has given me a chance to come and play football here and that's the main thing."

He added, "I want him to be able to trust me, I want to come in and impress the fans so hopefully we have a successful season."

After speaking with Adams and some of his new teammates, Williams felt confident about the move.

"I spoke to a few of the boys and they were all really complimentary about the club, the staff, and fans, so there was only one place I wanted to go."

Williams is eager to contribute on the pitch and noted his qualities as a player: "I'm composed on the ball, I like to chip in with a few goals... and I'm a commanding presence at the back."
