Cardiff City have announced the signing of Norwegian central defender Jesper Daland from Belgian side Cercle Brugge.

The 24-year-old has agreed to a four-year contract with the Bluebirds, subject to international clearance, and will remain with the club until the summer of 2028.

Daland, who began his professional career with IK Start in Norway, moved to Cercle Brugge in 2021.

During his time in Belgium, he made over 90 appearances in the top tier, including six in the current season before his switch to Cardiff.

Speaking at the Vale Resort, Daland expressed his excitement about joining Cardiff: "I'm ready to go. I've played a few games already this season. I'm very excited and looking forward to the journey ahead."

He also shared his anticipation for his potential debut in a significant match for the club: "I've heard a lot about what will hopefully be my first game. It's a real derby. I can't ask for a better game to start. I'm looking forward to the atmosphere. Obviously, the game is special for the fans and for everyone here."

Daland added his commitment to the club, stating, "I'll do everything I can for this club."

Cardiff manager Erol Bulut expressed his satisfaction with the signing, highlighting the qualities that Daland brings to the team.

"We are delighted with Jesper’s arrival. We tried to get him in January, but it was not possible, as his then club would not let him go," Bulut said.

"He is a great defender, but also good with the ball in the build-up. He will help us a lot. He can play from the left side and use both feet, which is very important for us. The fans will enjoy him. He is fit and ready!"
