Walsall sign Reyes Cleary on season-long loan from West Bromwich Albion
Walsall have secured the services of 20-year-old forward Reyes Cleary on a season-long loan from Championship side West Bromwich Albion.
Cleary, who has already featured in seven senior matches for the Baggies, most recently appeared in the Carabao Cup against Fleetwood Town.
The young striker has an impressive track record with West Brom’s Under-21 team, where he scored 19 goals during the 2022/23 season.
Last season, Cleary made five more appearances for the first team, including two in the Championship, and earned a call-up to the England Under-19 squad, representing the Three Lions against Iceland and Turkey.
After extending his contract with West Brom earlier this summer, Cleary is now eager to make his mark in League Two with Walsall.
Speaking about the move, Cleary expressed his enthusiasm: “I’m excited to come in, get on the pitch and help the club get to where it wants to be. My friend Mo Faal had a good loan spell here so when I had a conversation with him, I made my mind up and I wanted to come straight here.”
He added, “It’s good to play Premier League 2 but I need to start doing it against men in the real life of football because that’s the only way I’m going to get better so I can’t wait to get going.”
Walsall Head Coach Mat Sadler shared his excitement about the new signing.
“I’m pleased to add Reyes to the team,” Sadler said.
“He’s a player who, rewind 12 months ago, was sought after by every club in the division above after his prolific season in PL2."
Sadler continued, “He’s a very good finisher, very direct, wants to get at people and he gives us a different attacking outlet. He’s different to what we’ve got so far so I’m looking forward to seeing him play.”
