Rovers return for Danny Mandroiu: ‘There’s Europe and a league title to be played for and, hopefully, a new International manager to try to impress’
Shamrock Rovers have secured the services of Danny Mandroiu until the end of their extended season that now includes group stage UEFA football.
Subject to international clearance, he will be available to play in this week’s Europa League play-off against PAOK in Thessaloniki.
In July 2022 League One side Lincoln City exercised the five figure release clause for then 23-year-old player who was out of contract at the end of that season.
The player signed from Bohs in 2021 and was a crucial part of Rovers’ title winning success in that year. Overall he scored 15 goals in 35 league appearances which earned him a call up to the Republic of Ireland senior squad.
In the time he played with the Hoops in 2022, he scored seven goals from his 15 starts and three substitute appearances.
Speaking to ShamrockRovers.ie about the signing Hoops Head Coach Stephen Bradley said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have a player of Danny’s calibre and level back at the club.
"We all know how good Danny was for us before he left. He was brilliant on and off the pitch. We kept in touch and have a good relationship so I’m absolutely delighted to have him back.
"We know Danny had other options, elsewhere and away so the club have worked hard to make it happen and made it happen so I can’t wait to get him started again at Rovers.
“He has a connection with the club and the fans, a connection with the players and the group. He knows how we work and what we do, so it’s great to have him back in.”
Mandroiu said that “playing in the Group Stages of a UEFA competition appeals massively to me. It is something that very few professional footballers get to experience during their career, and to do it with my great team mates at Rovers in front of such unbelievable fans is going to be special.
"There’s Europe and a League title to be played for and, hopefully, a new international manager to try to impress.”
Took a look at PAOK & reminisced about Oct 2011. Rovers were in Thessaloniki for the Europa League. Also in town were the IMF, providing a bailout to Greece. With austerity in the air, locals were not happy and marched through the rubbish strewn streets:https://t.co/hOAsDbouuB
