Oxford United complete signings of Hidde ter Avest and Indonesian international Marselino Ferdinan
Oxford United have bolstered their squad with two signings, bringing in former Netherlands Under-21 international Hidde ter Avest and Indonesian forward Marselino Ferdinan.
Hidde ter Avest, a 27-year-old right-back, joins Oxford after a successful spell at FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie, where he made over 100 appearances.
Before his time in the Netherlands, ter Avest gained experience in Italy’s Serie A with Udinese and began his career at FC Twente, playing 100 matches.
Expressing his excitement about the move, ter Avest said, "I’m really excited to be here, and I can’t wait to get started. The gaffer and Ed’s [Waldon] vision really attracted me to Oxford United, and I’m looking forward to joining the lads on the pitch."
Head Coach Des Buckingham praised ter Avest’s qualities, saying, "Hidde is a very strong personality and a wonderful addition to our group. His experience at high levels overseas, combined with his technical ability, will be vital for us moving forward."
Meanwhile, Oxford United have also secured the services of 19-year-old Marselino Ferdinan, a rising star in Asian football.
The Indonesian international, with 26 caps and three goals for his country, has made history as the youngest goalscorer in both Indonesian and Asian Cup finals.
Speaking on his arrival, Marselino said, "I’m thrilled and still can't believe I’m here. Being the first Indonesian-born player in the Championship, if selected, fills me with immense pride. I won’t take this opportunity for granted, and I'll give 100% to make the most of it."
Coach Des Buckingham is eager to see how Marselino integrates into the team, stating, "Marselino is one of the best young players coming through in Asia. We’re excited to see how he progresses and develops within our environment."
