Oliver Skipp joins Leicester City from Spurs
Leicester City have bolstered their midfield by signing Oliver Skipp from Tottenham Hotspur on a five-year deal.
The 23-year-old, who has been with Spurs since the age of five, makes the move to the Foxes after accumulating over 100 appearances for the North London club.
Skipp, a defensive midfielder and England youth international, expressed his excitement about joining Leicester, stating, “I’m really excited to sign. I’ve got the feeling that it’s a good group of people and a good group of players. I’m sure that we’ve got a squad capable of challenging in every game.”
He also noted the warm reception he received from the club, highlighting the importance of feeling wanted: “As a player, when you feel that excitement, that’s something you can use to develop your game.”
Skipp has a strong connection with Leicester’s current manager, Steve Cooper, having worked together during his time with the England Under-17 and Under-18 teams.
Skipp made his senior debut for Tottenham in October 2018 and later played a role in Norwich City’s Championship-winning campaign during a loan spell in the 2020/21 season, which earned him a spot in the PFA Championship Team of the Year.
He was a part of Tottenham’s midfield over the past three seasons, and in 2023, he featured in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship Final, helping England to victory over Spain.
Skipp is set to join his new Leicester teammates ahead of their Premier League match against his former club, Tottenham Hotspur, at King Power Stadium on Monday night. His first appearance for the Foxes could come on Saturday 24 August when Leicester visit Fulham at Craven Cottage.
