Kilbarrack United began their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Lucan United on the opening night at Greendale Road.

Ross Carrig’s side impressed in a narrow FAI Cup defeat against Treaty United last month and they carried that display into their season opener against the champions.

And there was a league debut goal for Jimmy McHugh, formerly of Usher Celtic, who scored first with a 27th minute strike.

But Kilbarrack had to wait until the 90th minute to seal the deal with Mark Townley netting.

Meanwhile, Bluebell United rallied late to claim a 3-2 win over Tolka Rovers.

The Bell came eighth last season but have been able to add to their squad, with former League of Ireland defender Joe Gorman a high-profile recruit.

And he was on the mark for the Capco Park outfit against Tolka Rovers.

Dean Paget opened the scoring for Tolka Rovers in the first-half before they were pegged back via Joshua Ojelabi.

However, Tolka retook the lead soon after with former Shelbourne and Cabinteely man James Woods scoring.

And it looked as if Tolka would hold on for a win until Gorman scored in the 79th minute.

Ojelabi then won it at the death for Bluebell with a 90th minute winner.
