Salford City secure Josh Austerfield from Huddersfield Town on a two-year deal
Salford City have bolstered their midfield by signing 22-year-old Josh Austerfield from Huddersfield Town on a two-year contract.
Reflecting on his decision to join Salford City, Austerfield shared his enthusiasm: “As soon as I heard the interest, and knowing the Gaffer and some of the lads here, it made my decision easy. It’s a great platform for me to show what I can do, and I’m grateful for the opportunity.”
Austerfield’s football journey began at Huddersfield Town, where he joined as a junior at just seven years old.
Over the years, he gained experience during loan spells at Harrogate Town in League Two, Morecambe in League One, and most recently, Crewe Alexandra. At Crewe, Austerfield was part of the squad that reached the League Two play-off final last season.
“It was a mad six months, and ending up at Wembley was an unbelievable feeling,” Austerfield reminisced.
“Although it would have been nice to win, I have no regrets. I’m thankful for the time there and the opportunities I got, which have prepared me well for this next step at Salford City.”
After participating in his first training session on Friday, Austerfield expressed confidence in his new team: “When I look at the squad, even just from today, I know we’re going to have a good season. I’m ready to contribute as much as I can and I’m confident we’ll be right up there come the end of the season.”
The midfielder also conveyed his excitement about playing at The Peninsula Stadium, saying, “I’ve been here a few times, but never played. It’s always lively, and I honestly can’t wait to get going. There are going to be some great Saturdays and Tuesday nights here, I know that for sure.”
