Flynn making his mark with Mons

Monaghan United take pride in developing local youngsters and promoting them to their senior team, but it is not easy to hold down a place in a competitive squad as Niall Flynn is discovering.

The 19-year-old started the recent 1-0 defeat to Derry City and will be hoping to stay in Mick Cooke's plans for the remainder of the season.

If the Smithboro native can continue to impress then he should be in with a chance to clock up more game-time for the Magic Mons over the weeks.

"Getting into the first team fairly regularly has been a fabulous experience. I am really enjoying my season and the experience of playing senior football," said Flynn.

"I must say that the help and support I get from the more established players in the squad has built my confidence. They are all great on the pitch.

"Mick Cooke has done a great job with the lads, we would do anything for him. Pat McGibbon, the Assistant Manager and Head Coach has got a great training regime going and Aidan Lynch is assisting him this season. The training is at a whole different level and it has really benefited my game.

"We are having a good season and after playing all other teams in the League, we don’t fear playing any team. I think we can do well and be up there or thereabouts at the end of the season."
