BALLYFERMOT UNITED

Leinster Senior League outfit Ballyfermot United will have their eyes on an FAI Cup scalp on Friday night when they host League of Ireland First Division side Wexford at Coldcut (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

Ballyfermot – who recently departed with long term manager John Moore – reached this round of the competition following a 3-0 win over Rockmount AFC in the first round before dismissing Leeds AFC in their previous outing.

And they have a strong squad available to them with goalkeeper Michael Quinn formerly of Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers as a teenager before carving out a career with Crumlin United.

Attacker Darryl Henderson is also a threat having scored in the last round.

Boss Barry Prenderville is also in charge of the club as they have their eyes on a big win. Last week, he led his side to a 2-1 friendly win over Crumlin United.

WEXFORD

James Keddy’s Wexford may have flattered to deceive for vast swathes of this season in the First Division – but they are now motoring in the right direction.

Two wins in their last two against Finn Harps and Athlone Town have propelled them back into play-off contention following a damaging defeat away to Bray Wanderers last month

They also drew away to UCD 0-0 after their 3-1 defeat against the Seagulls.

Wexford are now fifth in the table and reached this stage of the FAI Cup following a 3-1 win over Wayside Celtic in the second round.

And they will be confident they can repeat the trick against junior opposition on Friday night.
