The Republic of Ireland women’s team will begin their attempt to qualify through the play-offs for the European Championship in Switzerland next summer with a play-off first round game against Georgia. The second leg of this tie has been confirmed for Tallaght Stadium on Tuesday 29th October (kick-off 19:30).

Should they progress (and they did beat Georgia 11-0 in Tallaght and 9-0 away en-route to World Cup qualification) they will then play either Slovakia or Cymru in the two legged play-off final round – the winner goes to the Euros.

That home play-off game would take place in the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday 3 December (kick-off 19:30). This would be their fourth fixture at Lansdowne Road.

In a friendly last February, Ireland lost 2-0 to Wales. When they last played Slovakia, it was in the qualification group for the World Cup. The sides drew 1-1 in Dublin with Ireland winning 1-0 away from home.

Ireland earned a seeded spot in these play-offs following their 1-0 win over France in the EURO qualifier last month. The French side managed by Herve Renard were knocked out of the Olympics at the quarter-final stage losing to eventual runners up Brazil.

Speaking after confirmation of the venues, Ireland WNT Head Coach Eileen Gleeson said: "We’re delighted to have both Tallaght Stadium and the Aviva Stadium confirmed for the European Qualifying Play-Off stages.

"Tallaght Stadium has played a huge part in the journey of the Women’s National Team and we look forward to experiencing another incredible experience generated by our wonderful fans.

"Should we progress to Round 2 of the Play-Offs, the Aviva Stadium will be a fitting venue for what could be another historic milestone in Irish women’s football.

"Playing in front of our home fans is always an honour for the team. The support of our fans makes a huge difference for the girls and to potentially finish our EURO 2025 qualifying campaign in front of a packed Aviva Stadium would truly be magical.

"For now, full focus remains on Phase 1 of the qualifiers and our games versus Georgia. We look forward to seeing everyone back in our home stadiums soon."

Both games will be broadcast live on RTÉ2.
