Brentford secure Fábio Carvalho on a five-year deal from Liverpool
Brentford have completed the signing of attacking midfielder Fábio Carvalho from Liverpool on a five-year contract, with an additional one-year club option.
Carvalho, who originally joined Liverpool in 2022, has been involved in 21 matches for the Merseyside club. During Liverpool's pre-season tour in the United States this summer, he made a impact by scoring in victories over Arsenal and Manchester United.
Carvalho initially made his mark in west London with Fulham, where he was involved in their 2021/22 Championship promotion campaign, contributing 10 goals and eight assists as a 19-year-old.
His impressive performances led to a move to Liverpool, where he played 21 games and scored three goals..
Last season, Carvalho experienced loan spells with RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga and Hull City in the Championship. While his time in Germany was brief, he had more success at Hull, scoring nine goals in just 20 appearances, helping the team in their push for the play-offs.
Brentford head coach Thomas Frank expressed his enthusiasm about the new signing, stating: "Fábio is a player with a lot of qualities. He can play in all of the front three or four positions in a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1. His best position is probably as a no.10 or coming in from the left."
Frank further praised Carvalho's skills, saying, "Offensively, he has great abilities on the ball: he can go past players, slide a pass, create chances and get on the end of chances. He's a type of player that we don't have many of in the squad so he will add that something extra for us."
Carvalho, born in Portugal and a product of Benfica’s youth academy, moved to London with his family at age 11. He started his career with Balham before joining Fulham in 2015. He made his senior debut for Fulham during their 2020/21 season.
