Blackpool have secured the return of midfielder Elliot Embleton from Sunderland. The 25-year-old, who previously enjoyed a successful loan spell at Bloomfield Road, has signed a two-year contract with an option for an additional 12 months.

Since his previous time with Blackpool, Embleton has continued to make his mark, including scoring in Sunderland’s League One Play-Off Final in 2022, which helped the club secure promotion to the Championship.

An England youth international, Embleton is set to reunite with Blackpool manager Neil Critchley as the club bolsters its squad ahead of the new season.

Expressing his excitement about the move, Embleton said, “I’m buzzing to be back and looking forward to the future here at Blackpool. For me, I need to get back playing football, and I’ve got such happy memories here, where I feel like I played well and we ultimately ended up getting promoted.”

Reflecting on his previous experience at Bloomfield Road, Embleton added, “I sampled the atmosphere against Oxford in the play-offs when there were just 4,000 supporters due to Covid restrictions, and even then it was unbelievable. I can’t wait to play at Bloomfield Road again with more supporters, and hopefully, we can get the place rocking this season.”
