Preview: Derry City vs Galway United

New Galway United manager Jeff Kenna couldn’t ask for a more challenging first away game when he takes the Tribesmen to the Brandywell in search of their first win of the season on Friday night (kick off 7:45pm).

A long awaited first home point evaded Galway last week, when Bray Wanderers pinched a win in Terryland Park. A 90th minute goal by Ger Rowe ruined a Galway comeback, after they found themselves two behind after only 27 minutes. While a point would have done wonders for Galway's battered confidence, it would have been rough justice on a Bray side who created countless chances.

Kenna goes into the Derry match with a number of injury worries. Ciaran Foley, Alan Keane and Daryl Robson all remain sidelined with injury. John Lester(achilles tendon) has been added to the list and won't feature.

Kenna will be looking for an improvement in defence when the Tribesmen take to the field on Friday. "Obviously, it's going to be a difficult game in the Brandywell, however my players are ready to get stuck in. We need to get points on the board so we will be going into this game looking for a result. It would be brilliant to keep a cleansheet as we need to stop leaking goals."

Derry City welcome back Clive Delaney from suspension after his red card in Bray’s 1-0 win over the Candystripes last month. Stephen Kenny will be without Sammy Morrow (cruciate), Sean Hargan (knee), Darren Quigley (wrist), Paddy McCourt (back injury) and Eugene Ferry (metatarsal). After their draw in Dalymount last week, they will be looking to take all three points against bottom of the table Galway United.

Kick off in the Brandywell is at 7:45.
