Colchester United have announced the signing of midfielder Teddy Bishop on a two-year contract. Bishop, 28, becomes the eleventh summer addition to Danny Cowley's squad after leaving Lincoln City at the end of last season.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the move, Bishop said, “I would have liked to have been here and settled maybe a couple of weeks ago, but it’s been in the pipeline for a little while. It was just a big decision for me, but I think I’ve made the right decision."

Bishop cited the club's vision and the managerial duo's track record as key factors in his decision.

"I believe in the project, the managers had put together a really good presentation to me and I like where the club is going. Danny and Nicky have proven promotions from this league, so that was another factor for me," he added. He also noted the experience of the new signings, saying, "The players they’ve signed have all got experience in League One or higher, so I think we’re putting together a good squad."

Bishop's career began at Ipswich Town’s academy where he progressed to make over 100 appearances, mainly in the Championship. After a seventeen-year stint with Ipswich, he moved to Lincoln City in 2021, where he played 111 games and scored fifteen goals over three seasons.

Bishop is set to join his new teammates on Thursday morning as the squad prepares for their season opener against AFC Wimbledon this weekend.
