Mansfield Town capture striker Will Evans from Newport County
Mansfield Town have announced the signing of forward Will Evans from Newport County. The 27-year-old has agreed to a two-year contract.
Evans joins Mansfield following a standout season with Newport County, where he netted 25 goals, including a remarkable equaliser against Manchester United in the fourth round of the FA Cup. He finished as the sixth highest goalscorer in Sky Bet League Two, scoring 21 times.
The Welsh forward began his professional journey at Cardiff Metropolitan University FC in the Cymru Premier. He later moved to Bala Town in 2020, achieving double-digit goals in consecutive seasons, which attracted the attention of Newport County.
In his debut season with Newport, Evans made 45 appearances and quickly became one of the leading strikers in Sky Bet League Two last year.
Manager Nigel Clough expressed his satisfaction with the new signing, stating, "We’re delighted to get this over the line. Will’s a striker who we’ve watched for the past 12 months and feel he will complement the team and the other forwards in the squad. He gives us something different and his goals return last season was excellent."
Evans himself shared his excitement about the move, saying, "I’m 'buzzing' to be here. I can’t wait to start this new challenge. I’m over the moon to be here and will give my all for the club."
