Shrewsbury Town welcome Aston Villa's Josh Feeney on season-long loan
Shrewsbury Town have secured the signing of centre-back Josh Feeney on a season-long loan from Aston Villa.
This marks the 19-year-old's second loan, following a stint in Spain with Real Union last year.
Feeney is the second player to join Shrewsbury from Villa this summer, following the arrival of attacking midfielder Tommi O'Reilly.
The clubs have developed strong ties thanks to the relationship between Shrewsbury's manager, Paul Hurst, and Villa's head of emerging talent and loans, Adam Henshall. Henshall previously served as Town's head of recruitment and performance analysis.
"This deal has been in the pipeline for a couple of weeks," Paul Hurst explained.
"His parent club wanted to take Josh on their pre-season tour, so we had to be a little patient and wait for him to come in."
Hurst revealed he has been discussing Feeney with Henshall for the past 18 months, noting, "He is highly rated, comfortable on the ball and has represented England at under-16, 17 and 18 level."
Hurst is optimistic about Feeney's impact on the team, stating, "We are looking forward to working with him and getting him into the team over the next few weeks."
