Shelbourne to face Shamrock Rovers as FAI Cup quarter-final draw made
The draw for the quarter-finals of the FAI Women’s Cup took place at FAI HQ in Abbotstown on Tuesday morning, pitching reigning Cup holders Athlone Town against Treaty United.
Athlone will travel to Limerick in the opening game of their defence of the trophy having received a bye in the first round.
Last year’s losing finalists Shelbourne have been drawn away to Shamrock Rovers in what looks like the standout tie of the round.
Both sides overcame league opposition in the first round.
Rovers knocked out Wexford after a penalty shootout, while the Reds registered an impressive 3-1 win over Galway United at Eamonn Deacy Park.
Leeside will play host to another of the quarter-finals with Danny Murphy’s Cork City being drawn at home to Bohemians.
Bohs took out reigning league champions Peamount United in round one and have now lost just once in their last six games.
City, meanwhile, are unrecognisable from the team that struggled so badly over the last few seasons and have already won more matches this season (six) than they managed all last season.
Finally, DLR Waves and Sligo Rovers have both been having difficult seasons and are currently the bottom two teams in the league table.
But one of them will soon have a Cup semi-final to look forward to and if it’s Sligo, it will be their second semi-final season in a row.
Women's FAI Cup Quarter-Final Draw:
Cork City v Bohemians
Shamrock Rovers v Shelbourne
DLR Waves v Sligo Rovers
Treaty United v Athlone Town
Ties to be played on week ending August 25th
