Tommy Barrett on Cork City draw: 'We were full value for the point but we should’ve had all three, it was a bit of robbery really'
Eanna Mackey reports from Markets Field
Following his side's last-gasp heartbreak at the hands of Cork City, Treaty United manager Tommy Barrett appeared encouraged by his team’s performance following their 1-1 draw in the First Division in the Market’s Field on Friday evening.
The Shannonsiders remain the only team unbeaten by the runaway league leaders this season, having led through Mark Byrne until the 97th minute when Charlie Lyons scored with the last kick of the game.
“It’s the story of our season really but we would’ve taken it before the game but we’re still very disappointed," he said.
"We’ve played all year without taking our chances and then we concede silly goals.
“We were the better team for the majority of the night but we need to take our chances.
"We were full value for the point but we should’ve had all three, it was a bit of robbery really."
Barrett’s men will hope to restart their play-off push next week against bottom side Longford Town.
Treaty are five points and three places adrift of Finn Harps in fifth, who occupy the last of the play-off positions.
“There’s no point in getting a result here tonight if we don’t get a win next week against Longford," he explained.
"It’ll be a tough game but we know that we have to be at our best to win.
“We’re disappointed with tonight but well come back next week and lift the spirits and kick on.
"We know that we need to bring that high energy like we did tonight into every game and if we do that we’ll give ourselves a good chance.”
