Man United boss Ten Hag updates on player injuries after Liverpool defeat
Manchester United's pre-season tour concluded with a challenging 3-0 defeat to Liverpool. Despite creating several scoring opportunities, United couldn't convert, resulting in a scoreline that perhaps doesn't fully reflect their performance.
Injury wise, United faced a number of defensive setbacks.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, and Jonny Evans, who all started the game, were forced to leave the pitch at different stages due to various issues. Lindelof and Evans were substituted at half-time, and Will Fish, one of their replacements, also had to leave after a collision with Liverpool’s Harvey Blair.
Manager Erik ten Hag provided insights post-match.
"Always, we have to see what has gone on," he stated to MUTV.
"The assessment, of course, with Will Fish is it’s an impact injury. We also had to sub Jonny Evans at half-time because he was ill. Victor Lindelof [was] a precaution. So, yeah, there are some injuries, but we have to see how bad it will be."
Adding to the defensive woes, Harry Maguire was notably absent from the matchday squad. Ten Hag explained before the match, "Pre-season is always tough. But, yeah, Harry Maguire, as a precaution, we leave him out. And we had, of course, some injuries, but that is part of club football. We have to develop our team and make some good progression."
Manchester United now turn their focus to preparing for their competitive season opener against Manchester City in the Community Shield next Saturday.
