Alfie Bendle joins Colchester United after Forest Green departure

Colchester United have announced the signing of Alfie Bendle, a 19-year-old midfielder, on a one-year deal.
Bendle, who has been training with the U's for several weeks, impressed the coaching staff with his performance during pre-season matches.
Bendle was released by Forest Green Rovers earlier this summer after a year with the Gloucestershire club. Prior to that, he spent his formative years at Brighton's academy and signed his first professional contract with AFC Wimbledon on his seventeenth birthday.
Bendle made his EFL debut at the end of the 2021/22 season, accumulating a total of nine appearances for Wimbledon.
Reflecting on his new opportunity, Bendle shared his enthusiasm.
"I was really buzzing to be honest," he said.
"As soon as I heard it was an opportunity for me, I was like 'yes, let's give this a go and see what happens'. As soon as my agent told me, I was thinking, get me there and let's give it a crack."
