Cork City have confirmed that Jaden Umeh has signed with Benfica.

Umeh, 16, has joined the Portuguese giants after turning down a professional contract with the Turners Cross outfit.

The attacker has made 15 appearances for Cork City this season, scoring two goals in the process.

He joins the Lisbon club ahead of the start of their Primeira Liga campaign on August 10th.

Commenting on the news, City’s Head of Academy, Liam Kearney, said: “We understand that this is a huge opportunity for him to join a club of Benfica’s stature."

"It is a great opportunity for him, and we are happy that, should he progress as we expect, it will benefit Cork City and our academy in the future also. We would like to thank Jadem for his contribution to the club and wish him the very best of luck for the future.”

The move will see City receive compensation from Benfica under FIFA compensation regulations, with further future benefits based on the player’s progress.
