Manchester City sign Japan International Aoba Fujino
Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Japan international Aoba Fujino on a three-year contract.
The 20-year-old forward will link up with her new teammates at the Perth International Football Cup later this month after competing in the Paris Olympics. Fujino will wear the number 20 shirt.
Fujino's impressive track record includes two WE League Valuable Player Awards during her three seasons with Tokyo Verdy Beleza, where she also won the Empress Cup. In her tenure with the club, she made 51 appearances, netting 24 goals and providing 17 assists.
Fujino first gained international recognition at the 2023 World Cup, becoming Japan's youngest-ever goalscorer in the tournament.
Speaking about her move to City, she said, "In the league, this is a top-level club both physically and technically. That is something that I find very appealing, the size of the team and the organisation. It’s very important to play in this kind of environment.”
Expressing her excitement about joining the club, Fujino added, "This is a very big club with a lot of history, so I’m really excited to come here."
Head Coach Gareth Taylor echoed these sentiments, noting, “Aoba brings even more excitement and technical quality to the team. She is still young but has already established herself on the international stage and we are delighted to bring her to our club.”
