Peterborough United have enhanced their right-back options by securing Sam Curtis from Sheffield United on a season-long loan.

The 18-year-old Republic of Ireland under-21 international will feature in the club's final pre-season friendly against Notts County this Saturday.

Curtis, who joined the Blades from St. Patrick's Athletic, made his Premier League debut last season, playing 30 minutes against Everton at Goodison Park.

Manager Darren Ferguson expressed his satisfaction with the signing, stating, "We were looking to recruit another right-back and have taken our time to get the right one through the door. Negotiations with Sheffield United took a few weeks, but we are delighted to get it done."

Ferguson praised Curtis's maturity on the field, despite his young age.

"He plays way beyond his years in terms of his manner and how he plays the position. Sheffield United had to fend off quite a few clubs, so we are really happy that he is now with us. He played in the Premier League last season, so there was trust there from his parent club."

Describing Curtis's playing style, Ferguson added, "He is an aggressive defender, will get forward and support the attack. He was very keen on coming, and we think he will be a really good signing for us. Chris Wilder really recommended him and was great to deal with, so we thank him for that."

Curtis himself is eager to begin his stint with Peterborough United. "I am really looking forward to getting started. I feel the club really suits how I like to play. It is a young dressing room, but after my first day, you can see it is a talented group," he said.

"I spoke with Harrison about coming here and he was very positive. I know the club are always very competitive in this division and I saw a number of the games last season."
