Northampton Town welcome new signing Liam McCarron
Northampton Town have announced the signing of winger Liam McCarron from Stoke City.
McCarron, 23, started his professional career at Carlisle United, where he made sixteen appearances before transferring to Leeds United in July 2019.
The Preston-born player made his Premier League debut for Leeds United under manager Marcelo Bielsa in a match against Arsenal. McCarron later signed a new contract with the club in September 2021.
In June 2022, McCarron joined Stoke City, but a managerial change led to him being loaned out to Port Vale.
Northampton Town manager Jon Brady expressed his satisfaction with the new signing, stating, "Liam has done well on trial with us over the last couple of weeks, and we are pleased to welcome him to the club."
Brady highlighted McCarron's versatility, saying, "He is strong and travels well with the ball. He can play in both attacking and defensive positions all down the left-hand side and inverted on the right-hand side, giving us flexibility in formations and systems. He has speed and the ability to break the back line in attack."
Discussing McCarron's potential, Brady added, "Liam has a good pedigree. He has some big clubs on his CV, but he is at the stage where he needs to start adding appearances. He is motivated to do that here, and we feel we can help improve and develop his game."
McCarron has signed a one-year contract with Northampton Town, with an option for an additional year.
