Blackburn Rovers bring in Austrian forward Andi Weimann
Blackburn Rovers have announced the signing of 32-year-old striker Andi Weimann on a one-year contract until June 2025. Weimann's arrival makes him the first Austrian to join the club.
The past 48 hours have been busy for Rovers, who also secured deals for Makhtar Gueye, Yuki Ohashi, Exaucé Mafoumbi, Kyle McFadzean, and Danny Batth.
Weimann brings extensive experience with nearly 500 club appearances, including nine seasons in the Championship and three play-off campaigns.
He began his career at Rapid Vienna before joining Aston Villa, where he played over 100 Premier League matches. He also had a loan spell at Watford, playing alongside Rovers' current head coach, John Eustace.
In 2015, Weimann moved to Derby County, helping the team reach the Championship play-offs twice. He had a brief loan at Wolves, reuniting with Danny Batth. Weimann then joined Bristol City in 2018, scoring 50 goals in 205 Championship appearances.
Last season, he was on loan at West Bromwich Albion, netting twice in four league starts and aiding their play-off push. Internationally, Weimann has over 20 caps for Austria and played in this summer’s Euros, featuring in the 3-2 win over the Netherlands.
