Blackburn Rovers secure signing of experienced centre-back Danny Batth
Blackburn Rovers have announced the signing of experienced defender Danny Batth on a one-year contract, running until June 2025. This marks the second centre-back acquisition for the club within two days, following Kyle McFadzean’s return.
Batth, 33, joins on a free transfer after departing Norwich City at the end of last season. He becomes Rovers’ fifth signing of the summer, joining Makhtar Gueye, Yuki Ohashi, Exaucé Mafoumbi, and McFadzean.
Batth made over 200 appearances for Wolves, contributing to their League One title in 2014 and Championship title in 2018. He also had loan spells at Colchester United, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, and Middlesbrough.
In January 2019, Batth moved to Stoke City, making 100 league appearances and captaining the team. He later joined Sunderland, where he played a role in their promotion to the Championship.
He was involved in Sunderland’s League One play-off final victory over Wycombe Wanderers at Wembley and was named Sunderland’s Player of the Season for 2022-23.
Batth’s journey continued with Norwich City last summer, helping the Canaries to secure a play-off position.
