Stoke City secure striker Sam Gallagher from Blackburn Rovers
Stoke City have signed striker Sam Gallagher from Blackburn Rovers for an undisclosed fee.
The 28-year-old forward has agreed to a three-year contract and will don the number 20 shirt. Gallagher is expected to make his debut against AZ Alkmaar on Saturday.
Gallagher began his career at Southampton at age 16, making 18 Premier League appearances before moving to Blackburn Rovers, initially on loan, then permanently in 2019.
Throughout his career, Gallagher has also had loan spells at Milton Keynes Dons and Birmingham City. The 6ft 4ins striker boasts an impressive Championship record with 50 goals and 22 assists.
Stoke City's Sporting Director, Jon Walters, highlighted Gallagher's experience as a key factor in the signing.
"Sam has a wealth of Championship experience and that’s something we wanted to bring into our forward line for the new season, to complement the players we already have and others we are looking to bring in," Walters stated.
"There was a lot of interest in Sam from elsewhere, so for him to have chosen us shows that he likes what we are about as a Club, and we are delighted to welcome him to Stoke City."
Gallagher, a former England youth international, expressed his enthusiasm for Stoke City's ambitions.
"The direction that the Club wants to go in is what attracted me," Gallagher said.
“There is an eagerness to climb the league which aligns with what I want to achieve.
“I feel confident in my abilities, I want to impact the team in a positive way and, most importantly, for the Club to be successful.”
