Chelsea sign Danish Goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal
Chelsea have announced the acquisition of Danish goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal.
The 22-year-old has commited to a seven-year contract with the Blues and will join his new teammates on their summer tour in the USA.
“This move is a dream come true. I am very excited to have signed for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world. I can’t wait to get to know everyone and to start playing with all my new teammates,” Jorgensen shared.
Born in Sweden, Jorgensen began his football journey with Swedish clubs GIF Nike and Malmo, followed by stints at Spanish academies Santa Catalina, Penya Arrabal, and Mallorca. At 15, he joined Villarreal’s youth setup.
After three years in Villarreal's youth system, Jorgensen advanced to Villarreal B, making his senior debut in October 2020 against SCR Peña Deportiva.
His consistent performance earned him regular training sessions with the first team, and he made his first-team debut in a 7-1 Copa del Rey victory over Atletico Sanluqueno in December 2021.
Jorgensen’s La Liga debut came in January 2023, and he secured his position as Villarreal's first-choice goalkeeper for the 2023/24 season. Last season, he made 37 appearances across all competitions, contributing to Villarreal’s eighth-place finish in La Liga.
