Kerry re-sign Cian Barrett on loan from Shamrock Rovers
Kerry FC have secured the return of 19-year-old Cian Barrett on loan from Shamrock Rovers until the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Barrett, who began his career at the Shamrock Rovers Academy, has experience playing at various levels. He initially played for Shamrock Rovers' under-15 team before moving to Shelbourne to compete in the EA Sports MU17 League of Ireland.
In 2022, he returned to Shamrock Rovers, joining their senior squad. Last year, Barrett played for Kerry FC, making 30 appearances and starting in 24 games, playing a crucial role in the club’s inaugural season.
This season, Barrett has featured in Shamrock Rovers' Presidents Cup victory, played in six Premier Division matches, and been part of their UEFA Champions League squad.
Barrett expressed his enthusiasm about rejoining Kerry FC, stating, "I’m delighted to be back and looking forward to getting started."
"I had a couple of options closer to home, but everyone at Kerry was brilliant with me last season, and I really enjoyed my time here. So I felt if I was going out to the first division to get games, I wanted to show them the same loyalty they showed me. I can’t wait to meet everyone in Mounthawk Park again and get a big push on for the remainder of the season."
Kerry’s First Team Head Coach, Conor McCarthy, also shared his excitement about Barrett’s return.
"It’s great to have Cian back for the rest of the season. He was a fan favourite here last season and did really well for us. Since he’s gone back to Rovers, he’s also been doing well with plenty of appearances in the Presidents Cup and several League games."
"I was chatting to him this morning, and he’s excited to get back to Kerry and is mad to get going. He enjoys the club here, the environment, the fans, so is buzzing to get back to the Kingdom. He will be a big addition to us now until the end of the season."
