Eanna Mackey reports from Markets Field

Tommy Barrett was a happy man following his Treaty United's 1-0 victory over Finn Harps at the Market’s Field on Friday evening.

The game’s only goal came in the 50th minute when Enda Curran converted from the penalty spot to give the Shannonsiders a deserved win following a commanding first half.

“I thought that game was the story of our season really,” said Barrett. “Throughout the year we’ve created a lot of chances in games but we just haven’t been able to put teams away.

"Honestly, I’m disappointed we didn’t score more.”

The result now leaves eighth-place Treaty just six points behind Harps in the play-off spot facing into the final third of the season.

However, Barrett’s charges now face the daunting prospect of welcoming runaway leaders and arch-rivals Cork City to the Markets Field next Friday.

“Look Cork are like a steam train at the moment picking up wins," the Treaty boss added.

"They don’t concede much and they are very solid with some great attackers but look well be going to win the game next week and if we can’t get three points well be aiming for one.

“We are the only team that they haven’t beaten yet so they’ll be coming here to win, but so will we.

"We know that if we can win two or three in a row there’s no reason why we can’t push for the play-offs.

"We have to be at our best to win any game and we have to go for them and be attacking.”
