League Preview: Sligo Rovers -v- Galway United
SLIGO ROVERS
Sligo Rovers will be hunting for their fifth win on the spin when they host Connacht rivals Galway United at the Showgrounds on Saturday night (kick-off is at 7.45pm).
The Bit O’Red won their previous three league games before last weekend’s routine FAI Cup win over Cobh Wanderers at home.
Wilson Waweru was the star of the show for John Russell’s side against their Munster Senior League opponents, netting a hat-trick in a 3-0 triumph.
Rovers also defeated Shamrock Rovers (2-0), Derry City (2-1) and Bohemians (1-0) beforehand.
But they will now be looking for another victory - this time against Galway - as they look to force their way into a battle for fourth place.
Stephen Mallon and JR Wilson are suspended for the Connacht derby.
GALWAY UNITED
Galway United assistant boss Ollie Horgan knows his side must rise to the occasion as they look to claim a scalp against Sligo Rovers on Saturday evening.
The Tribesmen visit the Showgrounds ahead of the Bit O’Red in the table, but do face a side who have won their last four games in a row.
And they may have to do it without striker Stephen Walsh who is a doubt.
Galway have also won their last two in a row, defeating Waterford at home in the league and dismissing a poor Longford Town side in the FAI Cup last weekend.
“Sligo are in a very good place but I think we are in a good place ourselves. But with the way they play, move the ball and being at home, we need to be in a good place to make it difficult for them,” Horgan told Galway Bay FM last weekend after the 6-0 win over Longford Town.
“We’re going up there with two wins at home so we’ll go there with a bit of confidence.”
Referee: Gavin Colfer.
