League Preview: Longford Town -v- UCD

LONGFORD TOWN

Basement side Longford Town host UCD at Bishopsgate on Saturday evening (kick-off is at 7.30pm).

The Red and Black have endured a wretched season at the foot of the First Division table but will be keen to avoid the wooden spoon as they look to claw themselves off bottom spot.

However, they slumped to a dismal 6-0 FAI Cup defeat to Galway United last weekend and have little else to play for in the league other than pride.

Following goalkeeper Jack Brady’s departure last week, Longford have snapped up former Derby County youth Harry Halwax on a deal until the end of the season.

Halwax, 22, was most recently on the books of Maynooth University Town in the Leinster Senior League having had prior stints with Cabinteely and QPR.

Mohamed Boudiaf is suspended.

UCD

Play-off hopefuls UCD visit the Midlands on Saturday evening looking to build on last weekend’s convincing FAI Cup success against Gorey Rangers.

The Students romped to a 4-0 win over the FAI Junior Cup runners up, with Jake Doyle, Mikey McCullagh, Sam Norval and Michael Raggett all scoring.

And they will have been buoyed with the return of captain Ronan Finn to the squad following a recent hamstring injury.

Youngster Matthew Alonge remains out but UCD will fancy their chances against a Longford side they have beaten twice already this season. Alex Dunne is also suspended.

They won the most recent fixture 1-0 at home having been 2-1 victors at Bishopsgate earlier this season.

Referee: Alan Patchell.
