League Preview: Cobh Ramblers -v- Athlone Town

COBH RAMBLERS

Cobh Ramblers will be bidding to stay in the promotion playoff hunt on Friday night when they host Athlone Town at St Colman’s Park (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

Ramblers head into the game off the back of a disappointing FAI Cup exit against Kerry last weekend, losing 2-0 at home.

Ryan Kelliher and Cian Brosnan did the damage for the Kingdom on that occasion.

But Gary Hunt’s side are just three points off fifth-placed Bray Wanderers and know that a win would have them on the Seagulls’ coattails heading into the business end of the season.

ATHLONE TOWN

High flying Athlone Town have continued to excel this season in the First Division and are on course to seal a lofty play-off position.

The Co Westmeath are second in the table and comfortably clear of sixth-placed Wexford by 10 points.

They are also three points ahead of third-placed UCD with a game in hand on the Students.

Athlone head into Friday’s showdown with Cobh following a narrow FAI Cup win over Ringmahon Rangers last weekend, claiming a 1-0 victory.

Brian Torre’s goal proved to be the difference between Athlone and their Munster Senior League opposition.

Referee: Daniel Murphy.
