Plymouth Argyle sign Icelandic International
Plymouth Argyle have bolstered their squad with the signing of Icelandic international Victor Pálsson.
The 33-year-old joins on a permanent deal after leaving Belgian club Eupen earlier this week. Pálsson, a right-sided defender or defensive midfielder, boasts 44 caps for Iceland since his debut in 2014, with his most recent appearance in March.
Pálsson is set to reunite with Argyle manager Wayne Rooney, under whom he previously played at DC United.
Rooney expressed his satisfaction with the signing, stating, "I am really pleased we have managed to bring Victor to Argyle. He brings extensive experience and knows the system we are looking to implement. I’m looking forward to working with him again as the Sky Bet Championship season approaches."
Born in Iceland to Portuguese and Mozambique heritage, Pálsson moved to Denmark at 16 to join Aarhus. His professional career began with Liverpool in 2009, including a loan spell at Dagenham & Redbridge.
Pálsson’s career has seen him play for various clubs across Europe and the US, including Hibernian in Scotland, New York Red Bulls in MLS, NEC in the Netherlands, Helsingborgs and Esbjerg in Scandinavia, FC Zurich in Switzerland, Darmstadt and Schalke in Germany, and most recently Eupen in Belgium.
His global experience includes captaining FC Zurich to a Swiss Cup victory and playing in the Europa League.
At Schalke, he won the 2. Bundesliga before reuniting with Rooney at DC United as a designated player.
Last season, Pálsson featured in 36 matches for Eupen, scoring twice.
