League Preview: Drogheda United -v- Waterford

DROGHEDA UNITED

Drogheda United will be looking to arrest a tough run of ten straight league games without a win when they host Waterford at Weavers Park on Friday night (kick-off 7.45pm).

You have to go all the way back to the first week in May for Drogheda’s last win when they defeated Dundalk 2-1 at home.

Since then they have just picked up three points out of their ten league games.

In their last game in the Premier Division they were beaten 4-2 by Dundalk at Oriel Park, despite a Douglas Taylor brace the Lilywhites ran out easy winners.

Away from the league however, they have a win under their belts in their last game which was also against Dundalk in the FAI Cup – Kevin Doherty’s men ran out 2-1 winners on the night.

James Bolger and Warren Davis scored to send United into the next round where they will meet Wilton United.

Though their big worry will be the Premier Division campaign with the club sitting bottom of the table, five points off the relegation playoff spot and nine points from safety.

WATERFORD

The Blues will seek to continue their drive for a European place in this year’s Premier Division when they face Drogheda United on Friday night.

Keith Long’s men will look to get back to winning ways in the league after their Premier Division form hit a speedbump when they faced Galway United two weeks ago, Pat Hickey scored the only goal of the game to give the Tribesmen the win on that occasion.

In their FAI Cup second round game they overcame Cockhill Celtic on Friday night and that has set them up with a third round meeting against Athlone Town at home.

In team news, Sam Sargeant will be sidelined due to picking up a fractured hand in training during the week.

Conor Evans and Rowan McDonald also miss out however Christie Pattisson and Barry Bagley will be back available for the match day squad after returning from injury.

New signing Sam Glenfield will also be available.
