Salford City have secured the signing of attacking midfielder Ben Woodburn on a two-year contract.

The 24-year-old midfielder joins The Ammies after two seasons with Championship side Preston North End, where he made 64 appearances.

Woodburn began his career as a junior at Liverpool, setting the record as the youngest player to score a senior goal for the Reds in 2017 under Jürgen Klopp.

Reflecting on his time at Liverpool, Woodburn said, "I learnt loads under him, one of the best managers in the world. Playing with some of the best players was a great experience."

Woodburn's journey included several loan spells to gain experience in the Football League, and a call-up to the Wales national team was a proud moment for him.

"I’ve played under Ryan Giggs, who is a legend in the game. We’ve got a good relationship, so that was definitely a pull to come here."

During his time at Liverpool, Woodburn made 11 senior appearances and earned 11 caps for Wales, scoring twice. His debut international goal against Austria in 2017 was particularly memorable. "It was an unreal feeling to score on my debut," he recalled.

Woodburn's career also saw him on loan at Sheffield United in the Championship, Blackpool in League One, and Heart of Midlothian in Scotland, where he made 30 appearances.

He is now eager to reunite with Karl Robinson, his former manager at Oxford United. "I have a bit of a connection as I played under the gaffer at Oxford. It was a shame my time there got cut short by injury, but I’m really excited to get back playing under him."

Expressing his ambitions with Salford City, Woodburn added, "I just want to create chances and score goals. Hopefully, our playing style will be fun for the fans, and we’ll have some good games. Most teams I’ve been at, we’ve been pushing for the top end of the table. Hopefully, we can do that here and get Salford back near the top of the table."
