Barnsley have announced the signing of Matthew Craig on a season-long loan. The 21-year-old midfielder, who impressed with Doncaster Rovers last season, joins from Tottenham Hotspur.

Craig played a role in Doncaster's journey to the Sky Bet League Two play-offs, contributing to a club record 10-game winning streak.

Craig's football journey began at Watford's academy before moving to Tottenham, where he signed a professional contract in May 2021.

He made his Premier League debut in a substitute appearance against Leeds United on the final day of the 2022/23 season.

Expressing his enthusiasm about the move to Barnsley, Craig said, "It’s been really good so far. I’ve looked around the ground – which is beautiful – a really good stadium. The people I have talked to already have been really welcoming, it’s been good.”

Barnsley's Sporting Director, Mladen Sormaz, praised the new addition, stating, “We are extremely pleased to welcome Matty to Oakwell. He is a young player who will provide a different option in the midfield with his ability to regain possession and physicality. We are happy to have him join the squad to provide competition and thank Spurs for trusting us with a talent like Matty.”
