Tyrese Francois joins Wigan Athletic from Fulham
Wigan Athletic have secured the signing of midfielder Tyrese Francois on a two-year deal.
The 24-year-old joins Latics after spending a decade with Premier League club Fulham, where he made 11 appearances while also enjoying loan spells in Croatia and Denmark.
Francois, originally from Australia, moved to London in 2013 to join Fulham's Academy.
The midfielder captained Australia's U23 team to the semi-finals of the AFC Asian Cup in 2022.
He also had loan spells with NHK Gorica in Croatia and Vejle Boldklub in Denmark.
Having left Fulham this summer, Francois chose to join Wigan Athletic after extensive talks with Manager Shaun Maloney and Sporting Director Gregor Rioch.
Francois shared his enthusiasm about the move, stating, "I am very happy to be here, and I can’t wait to get started. It was a massive decision, but it’s the next chapter. I need to play games and show what I can do, and this is the perfect step for me."
He added, "I’m not the biggest in size so I pride myself on being technically good. I like the ball at my feet but to run and put my heart on my sleeve. I will do as much as I can for the team. Hopefully, I can excite the fans and bring positive results."
Shaun Maloney praised the new signing, saying, "We are delighted to welcome Tyrese to our football club. He is an extremely gifted footballer. He is both combative and tenacious and will add a lot to our midfield. I am looking forward to working with him, and hopefully, he can have a really successful time with us."
